Reading & Writing Activities

Grade : Senior High School (Twelfth Grade of Students)
Skill taught : Reading (Comprehensive Reading) and Speaking (Intensive Writing)
Teaching Activities :
1. Teacher provides a text related to the topic (analytical exposition entitled "Maintaining Our Nature; City Park")
2.  By using the text, teacher will use TPR (Think, Pair, Share) strategy to teach the students. The steps are:
2.1.Think. Teacher asks the students to think about the question provided and write the answers based on their understanding (integrating reading and writing skill).
2.2. Pair. Teacher asks the students to work in pairs or in a small group to discuss their ideas (cooperative learning).
2.3.Share. Teacher asks the students to share the result of their discussion. Each student has to have the same opportunity to deliver the result of discussion. The other students are asked to listen carefully and make a note to enrich their result of discussion (integrating speaking, listening, and writing).
   3.     In writing activities, the students are asked to create an analytical text and they need to pay attention with the generic structure too.

Maintaining Our Nature; City Park

            We all like to spend time in park, but are they just the perk of a great neighborhood? Or is it crucial for people to be able to interact with nature in spaces like city park? Many of your childhood memories happened in parks. To some extent, we’re probably aware that the parks in the neighborhood where you grew up had an impact on who you are today. It turns out city park as a crucial part of any community. They have a significant impact for our health, environment, economy, people and communities.
            City park certainly has a great impact for our health. Contact with nature enriches our psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being. It is place of adventure and challenge, exercise, peace and quiet, recreation, gathering and relaxation. In them, we find a sense of enjoyment, strong community spirit and wonder in nature. It offers a range of recreation activities to bring families and friends together in appealing places.
            Why city park is important for our environment? City park have many trees and many colorful flower so it is good for decrease the pollution in the city. We can get fresh air in there. In other word, city park can protect and conserve the biodiversity. They play a vital role in keeping the air and water clean, counteracting the damaging effects of pollution. It also offers refuges for species and buffers against the impact of climate change.
            Like a girl, city park also can make the city more beautiful. City park like a make up for the city and it is can attract tourist to come to the city. It is good for city economic. Many tourist also make the city more popular than other city. Public parks-arts festivals, athletic events, food festivals, musical and theatrical events often bring substantial positive economic impacts to our communities, filling hotel rooms and restaurants and bringing customers to local stores.
            City park is a place with a great opportunity for people or communities gathering together. Here, they can meet a new people or people that they know, and also celebrate their celebration with family and friends. They are inclusive and accessible. City park is the scene of excitement, refreshment, relaxation and solitude.
            So we can conclude that city park must be there in the city, it is very important to everyone in the community, our environment and also the city’s economy. And those are just a handful of reasons why we need to stand up for the city park in our communities. We need to actively maintain and improve the city park. Let’s maintain it together.

Listening & Speaking Activities

Grade : Junior High School (Eighth Grade of Students)
Skill taught : Listening (Responsive Listening) and Speaking (Intensive Speaking; Pronunciation, Fluency and Accuracy, Interaction Skills and Integrative Speaking)
Teaching Activities :
  1. Teacher provides a video related to the topic being learnt.
  2. Teacher gives each student an answer sheet that contains three columns. The first column is for the statement; second column is for TRUE or "T" and the last column is for FALSE or "F" that will be filled or answered by putting a tick (ΓΌ).
  3. Teacher will play the video twice and ask students to listen and watch carefully the video being played.
  4. Teacher gives certain times to students to finish their blank columns.
  5. Teacher and students will discuss the students' answer whether they choose TRUE or FALSE with providing their reasons why they choose true or false for each questions.
  6. After discussing, the teacher will finish the task 1 by giving the correct answer to them.
  7. For task 2, the students just need to match the words contained on that video with the correct meaning in Bahasa. This task is used to build the students' vocabularies.
  8. After finishing task 2, the students will work in pairs. On this task (task 3), they will make a short dialogue related to the topic and demonstrate the dialogue in front of the class (without bringing or using the text, just speaking up).
  9. For the last, teacher gives a homework to students to make an interesting video related to the topic in group. Each group consists of 4 people.

In group, you will make an interesting video about the importance of park or green area in your city. In that video, trying to persuade the community around you to preserve it together. (Time limitation is 1 week)
